Cancer care often involves multiple specialties. At CK Birla Hospitals, Jaipur, complex cancer cases may be reviewed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, radiologists and pathologists. The team reviews the patient’s diagnosis, imaging, pathology and other clinical information to develop a coordinated treatment approach tailored to the individual’s needs.
A Tumor Board is a multidisciplinary meeting where a patient's cancer diagnosis, reports and treatment options are reviewed by a team of specialists. This includes Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Pathology and other specialists as required.
The aim is to ensure that treatment decisions are considered from multiple expert perspectives and that the patient receives a well-coordinated treatment plan.

The process begins with registration and submission of the patient’s medical records, scans, pathology reports and previous treatment details. The relevant specialists then review the case before discussing it together during the Tumor Board meeting. Each specialist provides their clinical perspective to assess the diagnosis and consider suitable treatment options, including the sequence or combination of treatments where required. Based on this discussion, the team develops a coordinated treatment recommendation tailored to the patient’s cancer type, stage and individual needs. The treating consultant then discusses the recommendations with the patient and guides them on the appropriate next steps.
The Tumor Board provides a multidisciplinary clinical recommendation. The patient's treating consultant will discuss the recommendations with the patient and determine the appropriate course of treatment. Final decisions remain the responsibility of treating consultant/primary consultant in consultation with the patient.
