Angiography

Angiography is a test that uses imaging techniques, such as X-rays, along with a contrast dye to examine the blood vessels. This test lets your doctor examine blood flow through the vessels and the heart. A cardiologist in Jaipur may advise a coronary angiogram when you have signs of blockage or damaged or abnormal blood vessels. Through this, the doctor can identify the root cause of your symptoms.

A coronary angiogram is a medical test that uses X-rays to check the heart’s blood vessels, called coronary arteries. It helps doctors see if any vessels are narrowed or blocked. This test is mainly done to find out if someone has coronary artery disease.

  • It is a part of a broader group of heart tests called cardiac catheterisation.
  • In this procedure, thin, flexible tubes called catheters are gently guided through blood vessels to the heart.
  • The doctor makes a small cut in the skin to insert the tubes. During the test, doctors can also perform treatments like angioplasty and place stents to open blocked arteries.

There is another kind of angiogram that uses a CT scanner. This is called a coronary CT angiogram (CCTA). It does not require inserting tubes into the body. This test helps determine whether a person requires cardiac catheterisation. However, unlike the catheter angiogram, a CT angiogram cannot fix blocked arteries. If the CT shows a blockage, a catheter angiogram will be needed for treatment.
