নিউমোনিয়া হল এক ধরণের ফুসফুসের প্রদাহ। আমাদের ফুসফুসের আলভিওলি বা ছোট ছোট বায়ু থলিতে জীবাণুর সংক্রমণের ফলে এই প্রদাহের সৃষ্টি হয়। প্রতি বছর পৃথিবীতে লক্ষাধিক মানুষ এই রোগে আক্রান্ত হন। তার মধ্যে প্রায় শতকরা 23 জন ভারতবর্ষে থেকে। বিশেষত শীতকালে শিশু এবং বয়স্কদের মধ্যে এই রোগের প্রকোপ বেশি দেখা যায়। আক্রান্তদের মধ্যে মৃত্যু হার প্রায় 14 থেকে 30%। তাই আমাদের জানতে হবে কি ভাবে এই রোগ থেকে দূরে থাকা যায়, প্রতিরোধ করা যায় এবং দ্রুত নিরাময় করা যায়।
