Dr. Sounak Paul

Dr. Sounak Paul is a Senior Consultant in Interventional Radiology at The Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI), a CK Birla Hospital, Kolkata. He has practised as a radiologist since 2014 and as an interventional radiologist since 2017, after training at Medical College, Kolkata, Apollo Speciality Hospital, Chennai and Manipal Hospital, Bangalore.

An advocate of minimally invasive treatment, he treats conditions through a small puncture in the skin rather than a surgical cut, usually as a day-care procedure. His work focuses on the circulation of the legs — blocked arteries, non-healing wounds, varicose veins and leg swelling, particularly in diabetic and elderly patients — and on non surgical treatment of enlarged prostate, uterine fibroids and thyroid nodules. Treatment decisions are made together with the patient's treating physician or surgeon.

He is a life member of the Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, has published peer-reviewed work in interventional radiology (ORCID iD: 0000-0002-4286-8292), and teaches and mentors trainees in diagnostic and interventional radiology
