Need Of Joint Replacement Surgery And Its Various Types

Joint replacement surgery is widely known as arthroplasty which is a surgical procedure that is required to replace a damaged joint with another artificially made joint. These artificially made joints or implants are made up of ceramic, metal, or plastic usually it is used to totally replace the joint, or in some conditions, it is used to replace only a few parts or replace only the damaged part of the joint which is known as partial joint replacement surgery.

Earlier, people were skeptical about joint replacement surgery as the success rate of it was not very good as compared to today. With advanced medical science and technology and better equipment, joint replacement surgery has become a lot more successful than it was earlier. Since the surgeons are able to perform the surgery with minimally invasive techniques and laparoscopic methods that help in providing a better view from the inside; such techniques have helped the surgery to a wider extent.

When there is a need for Arthroscopy:

There are a lot of situations in which a person requires a joint replacement; usually, it is treated by ointment, heat therapy, or physical therapy but in cases where the pain is excruciating and unbearable such conditions people do require joint replacement surgery. Further, there are people who have chronic diseases such as Arthritis or Osteoarthritis. In such conditions, there is a lot of wear and tear of the bones and tissues that usually damages the bone and restricts movement, and affects the quality of life. In such conditions, joint replacement surgery becomes more than a necessity. Further, if a person goes through a terrible accident trauma, or fracture in such cases also surgery becomes the need of the hour.

Types of joint replacement surgery:

 

Knee replacement surgery: Knee replacement surgery is one of the most common types of joint replacement surgery as a lot of older people and obese people require it. Further, people who are candidates for arthritis, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis also require knee replacement surgery at some point in their life. Knee replacement surgery can be classified into partial knee replacement surgery or total knee replacement surgery. 

In a partial knee placement surgery any of the three compartments is changed or replaced whereas, in total knee replacement surgery, one might need to change the entire joint system with prosthetics. Knee replacement surgery has become very easy with the help of robotics as it is customized to a personal anatomy and represents a 3D structure of the knee that helps in assisting the doctor during knee replacement surgery.

Hip replacement surgery: Hip replacement surgery is very common for older people as they are more susceptible to wear and tear and they tend to fall due to their advanced age which causes damage to the hip. Hip replacement in Jaipur can also be classified as anterior replacement surgery in which the fewer restrictions and it uses minimally invasive techniques and partial hip replacement surgery which is usually for older patients.

Shoulder replacement surgery: Shoulder replacement surgery is more common in athletes, sports persons, and people who go for weightlifting. Since there is a lot of use of the shoulder the possibility of shoulder damage also increases when the socket in the wall gets damaged in severe conditions.
